Dr. Ewa Strzelecka

Ewa K. Strzelecka is an Assistant Professor at the University of Wroclaw and a Visiting Fellow at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Previously, she served as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie researcher at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. With a PhD in Social and Political Science, and four Master’s degrees and equivalent studies in Cultural and Religious Studies, Social Anthropology, Gender and International Development, and Migration and Social Intervention, Dr. Strzelecka’s expertise transcends disciplinary boundaries between political science, social anthropology, gender, migration and peace studies. She has been working at the crossroads between academic research, development practice and policy advising in more than 15 countries across the globe.

She is committed to bridging the gap between theory and practice, championing the transfer of knowledge between universities, policy-makers and development industries while emphasising the importance of global ethics, and social responsibility.

She is an award-winning writer with a thematic focus on conflict and peace-building, women’s rights movements, feminist foreign policy, refugees and forced migration, development, gender justice, human rights, diversity, revolutions, and the complexity of socio-political change in and beyond the Middle East and North Africa. An extended version of her PhD thesis was published as a book entitled Women in the Arab Spring: the Construction of a Political Culture of Feminist Resistance in Yemen (Mujeres en la Primavera Árabe: construcción de una cultura política de resistencia feminista en Yemen, CSIC, 2017).

Between 2021 and 2024, she led the EU-funded Peace Women project: Rethinking Peace-building: Women, Revolution, Exile, and Conflict Resolution in Yemen, striving to make a positive impact on peace and conflict resolution in Yemen and beyond.
