The Institute of European Studies (previously the Chair of European Studies) was established on the 1st of September 2012 and became an institute in October 2023. The institute belongs to the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Wroclaw, Poland. The Institute of European Studies offers offers both BA and MA programmes, as full-time studies. BA programmes include European Diplomacy, European Studies and Migration Management in Polish, and MA programmes include European Studies, fully in English, and European Diplomacy in Polish.

The Institute maintains close contacts with several universities across Europe and globally, and it cooperates with over 60 European and non-European universities through Erasmus+ and bilateral agreements. Therefore, our students get the chance to attend a large variety of programmes, allowing them to travel to many different countries. Our institute also welcomes a number of Erasmus+ students each semester, and offers them the possibility to take classes in English.

Both the research and the academic staff at the Institute of European Studies consist of specialists in their fields. These fields include political science, international relations, law, economics, history, security, media, communication, sociology, philosophy, cultural studies and more. Their focus does not only lie on Europe in the sense of civilisation, culture, politics and economics, but also in the sense of the EU itself and its areas of activity. The faculty members follow an interdisciplinary approach to these studies and aim to apply different perspectives from a variety of disciplines.

The mission of the Institute of European Studies is to empower students, to encourage them to explore their interests and to develop skills that can benefit both their personal and professional lives. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that graduates of our institute have an abundance of job opportunities available to them. Our graduates are prepared to understand and handle multifaceted processes within Europe, but also between Europe and international partners, as well as dealing with challenges related to social, economic and political aspects of the EU. They can pursue careers among others, in the public administration sector, in local, regional, national, international and transnational institutions, in diplomacy, or in consulting companies.
