Insightful Lecture on the Role of Africa in Contemporary Geopolitics
On April the 7th, students and professors attended a thought-provoking lecture by Dr. Bohumil Doboš and Dr. Martin Riegl, who lead the Geopolitical Studies Master’s programme at Charles University in Prague. They delved into the geopolitical dynamics of Africa, the influence of foreign powers on the continent, and other key issues.

Blended Intensive Program in Romania
A group of our students had the enriching opportunity to join an Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Program at Universitatea „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” din Iași, Romania.
The program, titled “ Global Insights: Strategic Communication and Security in International Relations,” tackled major geopolitical issues in today’s uncertain global landscape — with a strong emphasis on the Eastern European perspective.
Students from across Europe came together to exchange ideas and deepen their understanding of international security.
A huge thank you to Alexandru Ioan Cuza University for hosting such an inspiring and thought-provoking academic experience!

Book Discussion on Poland’s Geopolitical Role
On April 24, the Institute of European Studies, together with the College of Eastern Europe and the Forum of Young Diplomats, hosted a discussion on the book “Poland, an Emerging Geopolitical Pole in Central and Eastern Europe?” by Jakub Bornio and Mariusz Marszałkowski.
Experts reflected on Poland’s role in the changing international landscape, with contributions from Dr. hab. Rafał Juchnowski, Dr. Jakub Bornio, and Dr. Marek Stefan. The event took place at Café Artzat in Wrocław.

Guest lectures
Last week of April, we had the pleasure of hosting two outstanding guest lectures! 🎓✨
Prof. Hila Zahavi from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev shared her insights on the complex and evolving relationship between the EU and Israel. It was a fascinating discussion that sparked many questions and new perspectives. 🌍🤔
We also welcomed Prof. Liliana Tymchenko from the European Humanities University, who gave a thought-provoking lecture on the recognition of states in international law — a topic as timely as ever. 📜⚖️

Boat Cruise
In early May, the Institute of European Studies organized a boat cruise on the Oder River, offering a unique setting for informal conversations, networking, and enjoying Wrocław’s scenic views from the water. The event brought together students, staff, and guests in a relaxed atmosphere, strengthening community ties and celebrating the spring season.

Public Lecture by Prof. Victor Rizescu
On May 26, the Institute of European Studies hosted a public lecture by Prof. Victor Rizescu from the University of Bucharest, titled “Radical Right Culture and Populist Nationalism in Romania: Competing Legacies and the Politics of Memory.”
Held at the Faculty of Social Sciences, the lecture explored the historical and cultural foundations of radical right ideologies in Romania, with a focus on the politics of memory. The event drew an engaged audience and sparked thoughtful discussion.

Meeting with Dr. Emőke Korzenszky on Agricultural Diplomacy
On May 27, the Institute of European Studies hosted a special meeting with Dr. Emőke Korzenszky, Agricultural Diplomat at the Embassy of Hungary in Warsaw. The event, held at the Institute of Political Science, focused on regional cooperation within the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy and the Visegrád Group.
Dr. Korzenszky shared insights from her diverse diplomatic career, highlighting the intersection of agriculture, sustainability, and international collaboration. The discussion drew interest from students and faculty alike, offering a unique perspective on agricultural diplomacy in Central Europe.

Study visit to the Poland’s Army
In May, students of European Studies and European Diplomacy took part in a study visit to the 2nd Traffic Regulation Company. They learned about the unit’s NATO tasks, convoy operations, and military traffic control.
The visit was part of the project “The Practical Side of International Relations” and funded by the University of Wrocław.

Students from European Studies and Migration Management visited Wrocław Airport to explore behind-the-scenes security operations, including a demonstration by Emi, a detection dog who stole the show.
